Hi, I’m Yvette, a life scientist turned science communicator. I create a variety of written and visual content including online articles, videos, and STEM educational materials. I especially enjoy digging into the scientific literature and translating technical information into engaging content the general public can use.
My introduction to science communication came when I was attending graduate school. I was invited to use my passion for science and my experience as a lab tech at Fox Chase Cancer Center to do outreach to minority students in the community.
I was hooked.
Through my past work with Youth Achievers’ Committee, Inc. in Burlington, NJ, I’ve had the opportunity to co-develop an environmental education program; instruct students in science and math; perform demonstrations for outreach events; and review students’ science essays and posters.
I have also facilitated hands-on science workshops, after-school programs, and experiential field activities for Honey Hollow Environmental Education Center in Bucks County, PA and Mad Science of West New Jersey, and have mentored students participating in the annual Coriell Institute New Jersey Tri-County Science Fair.
I have a PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Thomas Jefferson University, a BS in Biology from the University of the Sciences (which merged with and into St. Joseph’s University), and am a member of the National Association for Science Writers.
